Teaching Study Notes

Jesus didn’t come just to save us - He came to reveal the Father.

When Philip asked, “Show us the Father,” Jesus responded with something stunning:

“Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.” John 14:9

This means:

• Jesus is the perfect picture of the Father’s heart

• Jesus is a visual reflection of the Father

• The Father is not harsher, colder, or more distant

• Everything Jesus did reflects who the Father is

Throughout Scripture, the Father is revealed as:

• Compassionate - slow to anger, rich in love (Psalm 103)

• Generous - giving good gifts (James 1:17)

• Welcoming - running toward the broken (Luke 15)

• Present - not far from any of us

• Loving - Jesus says the Father Himself loves you (John 16:27)

The enemy works hard to distort the Father’s character because if he can twist how you see God, he can twist how you see yourself.

But when you see the Father clearly:

• fear loses its grip

• shame loses its voice

• striving loses its power

• identity becomes rooted

• relationship becomes real

This is why Jesus constantly pointed people to the Father - because knowing the Father is the foundation of knowing who you are.

Reflection questions

• How have you viewed God the Father throughout your life?

• What lies or distortions have shaped your understanding of Him?

• How does Jesus’ statement “If you’ve seen Me, you’ve seen the Father” change your perspective?

• Where do you need the Father’s compassion, patience, or presence right now?

Application

This week, read Luke 15 slowly - not as a story about a rebellious son, but as a revelation of the Father’s heart.

Notice:

• the Father running

• the Father embracing

• the Father restoring

• the Father celebrating

Ask God to help you see Him as He truly is, not as past wounds or misconceptions have painted Him.

Closing Prayer

Father, help me see You clearly.

Heal the places where my view of You has been distorted.

Show me Your compassion, Your patience, and Your love.

Thank You for sending Jesus to reveal Your heart.

Teach me to trust You, rest in You, and walk with You. Amen.
